The Philippine government has announced a 50-million-peso reward for information leading to the arrest of Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for a crime against humanity, The Washington Post reports. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also gave the senator one week to surrender, according to Rappler.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the government's "gloves are off" in its pursuit of dela Rosa, Philstar.com reported. Manila Bulletin quoted Remulla addressing the senator directly over his refusal to give himself up.
The reward is being offered for information that leads to the senator's arrest, according to the Manila Bulletin. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian rejected the idea of negotiating with the fugitive lawmaker, BusinessMirror reported.
The reports did not specify what steps authorities would take once the one-week deadline passes. Dela Rosa has not been taken into custody as of the reporting.
Watch for whether dela Rosa surrenders before the DILG's deadline and how Philippine authorities respond if he does not.
