Peter Obi has said that agriculture will be the starting point for his plan to move Nigeria from a consumption-based economy to a production-based one, according to Channels Television.
The former Anambra State governor made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television. He argued that Nigeria’s current economic model relies too heavily on importing goods, and that shifting toward domestic production is necessary for sustainable growth.
Channels Television reports that Obi has also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, calling it “renewed hopelessness.” In separate remarks covered by TheCable, Obi told Tinubu that he is “tired” and should “retire and go home.” The Guardian Nigeria News adds that Obi has pledged to cut the presidential fleet and reduce government spending if elected.

Obi has also outlined plans to unify Nigeria and heal wounds from the civil war, according to Premium Times Nigeria. These proposals form part of a broader platform that includes economic reform, national reconciliation, and fiscal discipline.
The Labour Party candidate has not yet formally declared for the 2027 election, but his recent media appearances suggest he is building a campaign narrative around production-led recovery and anti-corruption governance.
