More than 100 families in Perak have received land titles, ending a wait that stretched across four decades, according to a report by The Star.

The grants were handed over in the Sungkai and Kuala Bikam areas, resolving a long-running dispute over land occupation, The Edge Malaysia reported. The Star quoted a state official, identified as Nga, as confirming the distribution.

The Edge Malaysia put the number of families at 120, while Free Malaysia Today described the issue as a 40-year squatter problem that has now been settled. The discrepancy in the exact count — The Star said "over 100" — reflects the different figures cited in each outlet.

The families had reportedly been living on the land without formal ownership documents since the 1980s. The issuance of the grants marks the formal recognition of their claims, according to the reports.

Local authorities have not yet commented on whether similar cases in other parts of Perak are under review. The resolution in Sungkai and Kuala Bikam may set a precedent for other communities still awaiting title deeds.

Observers will be watching to see if the state government extends the same process to other long-standing land claims in the region.
