OpenAI is set to house ChatGPT in what would become the world's largest data center, located in Ohio. The project, reported by Les Echos and other outlets, involves a partnership with Nvidia and will be built on the site of a former Cold War factory.
According to Les Echos, the facility will consume as much electricity as millions of households. The sheer scale of the operation is underscored by reports from Boursorama, which states the project will involve approximately 1.5 million Nvidia chips. BFM reports that Nvidia has announced a $105 billion investment guarantee tied to the data center's construction for OpenAI.
The collaboration between the two companies was confirmed by Courrier international, which noted their agreement to build the world's largest data center. Fortuneo adds that Nvidia is partnering with SB Energy to secure the necessary power capacity for the project.

The choice of a Cold War-era industrial site in Ohio highlights the growing demand for massive, dedicated infrastructure to support advanced AI models. The project's power requirements and chip count signal a significant escalation in the resources being committed to artificial intelligence development.
This development marks a major step in the physical build-out of AI infrastructure. The next point to watch is how this project progresses and what it means for the future scale of AI computing needs.
