Michael Olise scored twice and set up another goal as Bayern Munich thrashed Magdeburg 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The French winger's brace carried him past team-mate Harry Kane on Bayern's scoring list for the season, according to figures cited by Goal.com.

Olise now has 12 goals in all competitions this campaign, two more than Kane, who was named Ballon d'Or winner on Monday. Goal.com attributes the tallies to the French outlet Stats Foot.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing from a cross by Ismael Saibari. He added Bayern's fourth from the penalty spot in the 50th minute. Between those goals, he turned provider, setting up Saibari's second of the night in the 21st minute.

Why it matters

Kane has been Bayern's reference point in front of goal since arriving in Munich, and being overtaken by a team-mate is a notable shift in the club's internal hierarchy, even this early in the season. Olise's numbers also place him among the most productive attackers in Europe, not just at Bayern.

According to Stats Foot figures reported by Goal.com, Olise has 24 goal contributions for club and country this season — 16 goals and eight assists — across Europe's major leagues. Kane sits level with him on the same total of 24, also from 16 goals and eight assists.

Only Barcelona's Lamine Yamal ranks higher, with 25 contributions from 14 goals and 11 assists. Olise's assist against Magdeburg was what moved him onto that list.

The distinction between the two measures is worth noting: Olise leads Kane at club level on goals alone, while the two are tied once goals and assists for club and country are combined.

A cup night that underlined his form

Bayern's win over Magdeburg was one-sided, and Olise was central to it. His early finish settled the home side, and his link-up with Saibari produced goals at both ends of the first half-hour. The penalty early in the second half removed any doubt about the outcome.

Goal.com describes the performance as the catalyst for his rise up the Bayern list, and the timing gives it extra weight. Kane collected the Ballon d'Or on Monday, days before his team-mate moved ahead of him in the club's scoring table.

For Olise, the season has brought a steady return rather than a single burst. Twelve goals for Bayern across all competitions by late October, plus eight assists counted in the broader European tally, represent a significant contribution for a winger.

The wider context is a Bayern attack producing at a high rate. A 6-1 cup win in which the leading scorer adds two goals and an assist suggests the side is not short of options going forward, and that the competition for goals is coming from within.

Whether Olise holds the club lead will depend on how the coming weeks unfold. Kane's record makes a response likely, and the gap is only two goals. But the Frenchman's position at the top of the Bayern chart, and his place near the summit of the European contribution list, are now part of the season's early story.

Next up is the Bundesliga, where both players will have the chance to add to their totals and where the club scoring race will be watched closely.
