Bayern Munich reached the DFB-Pokal round of 16 with a 6-0 win over 2. Bundesliga side Magdeburg at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, a result that flattered the hosts for long stretches, according to Goal.com's player ratings. Michael Olise was named man of the match after opening the scoring, setting up a second and converting a penalty early in the second half. Alphonso Davies, introduced at the interval, won that penalty, scored one goal and created another as Bayern pulled away after the break.

Goal.com reports that Bayern finished the night with 63% possession and 19 shots to Magdeburg's nine, and that the visitors managed only two efforts on target across the 90 minutes.

Why it matters

The scoreline suggests a procession, but Goal.com's account makes clear the tie was competitive until half-time. Mateusz Zukowski equalised Olise's opener with a curled strike from around 20 yards, and Baris Atik struck the post in first-half stoppage time. Aaron Danks, deputising for the recovering Vincent Kompany, responded by sending on Davies, and the substitution swung the match almost immediately.

For a Bayern side missing its usual manager, the night was a test of squad depth as much as of quality. Harry Kane began on the bench, with Ismael Saibari leading the line, and the second-half scoring was shared among players who are not always guaranteed starts. Goal.com's ratings reflect that: Davies and Olise received the joint-highest marks at 9/10, while Danks was credited with 8/10 for a half-time call that paid off.

Olise sets the tone before Davies takes over

Goal.com describes Olise as the game's central figure while he was on the pitch. He finished from a Saibari pass for the opener, then supplied the through ball from which Saibari scored the second. The pair combined twice inside the opening 21 minutes, either side of Zukowski's equaliser. After the interval, Olise restored Bayern's two-goal cushion by lifting a penalty past the goalkeeper. He was withdrawn for Sacha Boey in the closing stages.

Saibari, handed the striker's role with Kane among the substitutes, was involved in both early goals but also blazed over from eight yards, a miss Goal.com notes in an otherwise strong 8/10 rating. Serge Gnabry created chances for Olise, Saibari and Lennart Karl without registering a shot himself and made way for Davies at the break.

Davies' impact was swift. Goal.com reports he won a penalty within four minutes of his introduction, then tapped in Bayern's fourth after Karl lifted a clever ball over the goalkeeper. Three minutes later he cut the ball back for Nathaniel Brown to steer home the fifth. He might have had another goal when he reached a loose ball ahead of the goalkeeper but pushed his effort wide.

Magdeburg's bright spells and a late flourish

The visitors' best moments came before the interval. Zukowski's equaliser briefly quietened the Allianz Arena, and Atik's post strike just before the break served as a warning that the second-tier side were still in the contest. Jonas Urbig, in the Bayern goal, was rarely tested otherwise but was beaten by Zukowski's curler and flat-footed when Atik hit the woodwork; he did deny Chavez from close range shortly before that. Goal.com gave him 6/10.

Jonathan Tah captained Bayern and kept a tidy defence, with Hiroki Ito stepping in for Dayot Upamecano alongside him. Josip Stanisic was rated Bayern's most productive defender going forward, creating chances for Saibari, Bischof and Karl before laying on David Santos Daiber's stoppage-time strike. Brown was a persistent outlet on the left and scored the fifth, though he collected an unnecessary late booking.

In midfield, Konrad Laimer worked for 67 minutes and showed a creative side, teeing up Tom Bischof early and cutting back for Karl shortly before the hour. Bischof tested Magdeburg goalkeeper Reimann from distance and had further attempts blocked or off target before being replaced in the 82nd minute. Karl peppered the goal without scoring, with Reimann denying him and a late scissor-kick drifting wide, but his dinked pass set up Davies' goal. Aleksandar Pavlovic played the defence-splitting pass that began the move for the fourth and was booked late for a foul on Zukowski. Santos Daiber, a brief substitute, curled a 25-yard effort into the bottom corner with the final kick of the game.

Bayern now enter the round of 16, with the draw to follow.
