Shohei Ohtani hit his 23rd home run of the season on Wednesday, leading off the game with a solo shot for the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Reuters. The blast was Ohtani's first home run of the second half of the season.
Ohtani's leadoff homer was his 10th of the season, and the 34th of his career, Reuters reported, citing data from Nikkan Sports. That puts him three behind Ichiro Suzuki's career total of 37 leadoff home runs.
The Dodgers lost the game, however, as the pitching staff surrendered five home runs, according to Daily Sports. Ohtani finished the game with three hits and three RBIs, including a late-inning run-scoring hit in the ninth.

In other MLB action, Okamoto hit his 24th home run of the season, tying the franchise record for most home runs by a rookie, Reuters reported.
Ohtani's next opportunity to add to his home run total will come in the Dodgers' upcoming series.
