Dutch broadcaster NTR has said it will not comment on any individual name amid speculation about who will take over the role of Sinterklaas, according to AD.nl. The broadcaster's response came after reports raised the possibility that actor and writer Ramsey Nasr could be in line for the part.
AD.nl reports that NTR declined to respond to "no name at all" when asked about the casting. The broadcaster's position leaves the question of the next Sinterklaas officially unanswered.
The speculation follows the departure of Stefan de Walle, who had played the role. De Telegraaf reported on a claim about who would become the new assistant to Sinterklaas, while TVgids.nl published a reaction from Nasr's manager to the questions about the part. RTL.nl also reported that NTR was giving nothing away on the matter.
The Dutch public broadcaster's Sinterklaas programming is a fixture of the annual December celebrations in the Netherlands, which is why the identity of the next actor to wear the bishop's robes attracts public attention. None of the outlets cited above have confirmed that Nasr has been cast, and NTR has not named a successor.
What to watch next: whether NTR makes an official announcement about the role, and whether Nasr or his representatives confirm or deny the reports.
