Former footballer Fredrik Gulsvik, 37, has been sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison for aggravated, organized drug crime, according to TV 2. The case covers two cocaine smuggling operations he took part in during 2024.

In the first, Gulsvik helped move 16 kilograms of cocaine from Sweden into Oslo. Later that same year, he was arrested during a drug transport from Amsterdam in which 18 kilograms of cocaine were being smuggled, TV 2 reports.

The sentence reflects the organized nature of the offenses, which Norwegian law treats as aggravated drug crime. NRK and other Norwegian outlets carried the TV 2 report.

Gulsvik's background as a former footballer has drawn wide attention to the case in Norway, where several national media outlets, including VG, Dagbladet, Nettavisen and NRK, reported the verdict.

What to watch next: whether Gulsvik's defense files an appeal, and how the court's written ruling details the two smuggling operations.
