Norway’s sovereign wealth fund has increased its holdings in Spanish-listed companies to €16 billion, according to a report from Cinco Días published on Thursday. The fund added to its positions in Banco Santander, Naturgy, and Bankinter as part of the latest adjustment.
The figure marks the total value of the fund’s equity portfolio on the Spanish stock exchange, Cinco Días reports. The newspaper did not specify the exact size of the new purchases or the timeframe for the increases, but it identified the three companies as the main targets of the recent reinforcement.
The Norwegian fund, officially known as the Government Pension Fund Global, is one of the world’s largest sovereign investors. Its activity in Spain has drawn attention because of the scale of its stakes in major domestic firms. The latest moves suggest continued confidence in Spanish banking and energy assets, even as broader market conditions remain uncertain.

Cinco Días did not provide a breakdown of the fund’s total Spanish exposure by sector, nor did it detail whether the additions were made in a single session or over several weeks. The report also did not mention any changes to other Spanish holdings.
Investors will likely watch whether the fund extends its buying into other Spanish blue chips in the coming months, and whether the new positions signal a longer-term shift in its European allocation.
