Multinational companies paid an additional €1 billion to the Irish state in July, the first full month under the country's new 15% corporate tax rate, according to irishtimes.com.

The increase was a key driver behind a broader rise in tax receipts, with overall collections climbing more than 6% compared with the same period last year, as reported by thejournal.ie. Income tax revenue also jumped 12.7% year-on-year in July, according to rte.ie.

The new rate, which applies to large firms with global revenues above a certain threshold, replaced Ireland's long-standing 12.5% rate for those companies. The July figures mark the first clear indication of how much additional revenue the change will generate for the government.

The Irish Examiner noted that the overall improvement in exchequer returns, which rose by €1 billion in July, was driven not only by the corporate tax windfall but also by higher VAT and income tax receipts. The independent.ie similarly highlighted that large firms paid the extra €1 billion on foot of the higher rate.

Taoiseach Simon Harris welcomed the figures, describing the economy as resilient, according to thejournal.ie. The strong performance comes as the government faces pressure to balance its budget amid rising public spending demands.

The July data offers an early snapshot, but the full fiscal impact of the 15% rate will only become clear over the coming months. Analysts and policymakers will be watching the next quarterly corporate tax filings to see whether the extra revenue holds or fluctuates with global economic conditions.
