A group of disputed Negeri Sembilan chieftains has publicly criticised Tuanku Muhriz, the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, over the removal of a state executive council member, according to Malaysiakini.
The criticism drew a response from Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), which urged the parties to mind their manners and show respect for Tuanku Muhriz as the head of Islam in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysiakini reported.
The removal itself has been the subject of competing legal and political views. Sinar Harian reported that the Attorney-General said the cancellation of the Negeri Sembilan exco appointment is valid.
The matter also drew comment from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Harian Metro reported that he said he does not agree with removing a Ruler lightly, and stressed that he would not interfere in matters concerning the position of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Separately, Utusan Malaysia reported that Umno's Puad Zarkashi said Ismail Sabri Yaakob had admitted he no longer holds power.
The dispute over the Negeri Sembilan exco appointment has drawn in the state ruler, federal figures and party leaders, with the Attorney-General's position now on record.
What to watch next is whether the disputed chieftains respond to the Attorney-General's finding and whether the state government or the palace issues any further statement.
