Nation Media Group has resumed its operations in Uganda after a month-long suspension, according to Reuters. The company announced the restart on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
The media group, which is East Africa’s largest, had shut down its Uganda operations in late June. Reuters reports that the resumption follows approval from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
According to Business Insider Africa, the reopening came after billionaire Rostam Azizi met with Museveni’s son. The Daily Nation also reported that NMG Uganda received a nod from the president to restart.

The shutdown had affected the group’s print and digital outlets in Uganda, including the Daily Monitor newspaper. Citizen Digital and the-star.co.ke both confirmed the restart after the month-long closure.
Observers will watch for any further regulatory conditions tied to the group’s renewed operations in Uganda.
