Several Nasdaq-focused exchange-traded funds listed in China are scheduled to halt trading on Monday, August 17, after their market prices moved significantly above the value of their underlying holdings, according to 同花顺.

The Nasdaq ETF managed by Harvest Fund will be suspended from the start of trading on August 17 and is expected to resume at 10:30 a.m. local time, 同花顺 reports. The move comes after the fund's secondary market price showed a substantial premium over its net asset value, a condition that can expose buyers to losses if the price reverts.

A separate Nasdaq technology ETF run by Invesco will also pause trading during the same morning window on August 17, according to 新浪财经. The suspensions follow similar action taken earlier this month, when China Merchants Fund's Nasdaq 100 ETF was halted on August 10 for the same reason, as reported by 观点网.

Other fund managers have issued warnings rather than halts. Both 金融界 and 中财网 note that ETFs from 汇添富 and 广发 have published risk alerts about elevated secondary market prices for their Nasdaq products. These notices typically caution investors that buying at a premium increases the chance of losing money if the price adjusts toward the fund's actual value.

The pattern of halts and warnings reflects a broader trend of retail investors in China piling into U.S. tech exposure through domestic fund products, often pushing prices beyond the funds' intrinsic worth. Regulators and fund companies have repeatedly used trading suspensions and risk notices to cool such speculative buying.

What to watch next: whether the 10:30 a.m. resumption brings prices back in line with net asset values, and if other Nasdaq ETFs follow with similar measures.
