Engineers in Nansana Municipality have asked the Ministry of Works to deal with infrastructure and maintenance problems at the Lubigi drainage channel, according to NTV Uganda. The engineers say flooding at the bridge regularly makes the Kampala–Hoima Road impassable.

The appeal was reported by NTV Uganda on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

The engineers partly blame the flooding on the way structures in Lubigi were demolished by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). According to NTV Uganda, the engineers described the demolition as uncoordinated, saying it left drainage channels blocked.

The Lubigi channel sits along a key route out of Kampala, and when the bridge floods, traffic on the Kampala–Hoima Road is cut off. The engineers' request points to both the condition of the infrastructure itself and the upkeep of the drainage system around it.

NTV Uganda reports that the engineers want the ministry to step in on both fronts to prevent the recurring floods.

It is not yet clear how the Ministry of Works has responded to the request. Watch for any statement from the ministry on the Lubigi channel, and for whether NEMA addresses the engineers' account of the demolition and its effect on drainage.
