MTN Uganda posted a 37.7% jump in profit for the first half of the year, reaching sh367.5 billion, according to NewVision.co.ug. The telecom operator’s earnings were buoyed by a growing subscriber base, the outlet reports.
The result marks a significant improvement over the same period last year. Alongside the profit increase, MTN Uganda raised its interim dividend by 73%, as noted by The Kenyan Wallstreet.
The company’s performance reflects continued expansion in its customer numbers. Business Day also highlighted the subscriber growth as a key driver behind the stronger financials, while ITWeb Africa noted that MTN Group’s operating companies delivered double-digit growth in the period.
MTN Uganda is one of the largest telecom operators in the East African country, competing in a market that includes Airtel Uganda and state-backed Uganda Telecom. The company’s mobile money and data services have been central to its revenue mix in recent years.

The first-half figures align with a broader trend across MTN Group’s African operations, where several markets have seen sustained demand for connectivity and digital services. ITWeb Africa’s report suggests the group’s regional units are performing well collectively.
Investors will likely watch whether MTN Uganda can maintain this momentum into the second half, particularly as competition intensifies and regulatory pressures on telecom pricing remain a factor in the region. The company’s next earnings update will show if the subscriber growth that fueled this profit rise continues at the same pace.
