Morocco defeated Angola 5-2 in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Wednesday in Rabat, according to allAfrica.com, claiming a record fourth continental title and a third in a row.

The hosts, who had previously won the competition in 2016, 2020 and 2024, retained the crown in front of their home supporters. No other nation has won the continental championship four times, allAfrica.com reports.

Why it matters

The result settles Morocco's standing at the top of African futsal. The Atlas Lions have now won three consecutive editions of the tournament, a run that spans from 2020 through this year's triumph on home ground.

For Angola, the final brought a strong campaign to a close without the trophy. The team reached the decider after a dramatic comeback win over Algeria in the semi-finals, allAfrica.com reports.

The match also closed out the tournament as a whole, with the hosts delivering the performance their home crowd had come for.

How the final unfolded

The first half stayed goalless until its closing minutes. Othmane Elidrissi broke the deadlock in the 17th minute to put Morocco in front.

Angola answered quickly. João Cambangula equalised in the 18th minute, briefly silencing the home support. The parity lasted barely a minute: Youssef Jouad scored in the 19th to restore Morocco's lead before the break.

Morocco carried that advantage into the second half and stretched it in the 21st minute, when Raiss El Fenni made it 3-1. The hosts kept pressing after the restart. Ismail Amazal added a fourth in the 33rd minute, and Bilal Bakkali scored two minutes later to put the defending champions 5-1 ahead.

Angola kept going and pulled one back through Anderson Fortes in the 37th minute. Morocco saw out the remaining minutes to secure the win and set off celebrations among the home crowd, according to allAfrica.com.

Podium and individual honours

Egypt took third place earlier on Wednesday, beating Algeria 8-1 in the third-place match, allAfrica.com reports.

Individual awards went largely to Morocco, according to CAF's own coverage of the tournament, while Angola's Cambangula finished as the competition's top scorer. His goal in the final was part of that tally.

Angola's route to the final included the semi-final comeback against Algeria, a result that underlined the team's resilience even in defeat on Wednesday.

What to watch

With a fourth title secured and a three-tournament winning run intact, Morocco's next task will be carrying that dominance into the coming continental cycle, where the rest of Africa will be measuring itself against the Atlas Lions.
