A Moomin mug has sold for more than 46,000 euros, setting a new world record for the highest price paid for such an item, according to Via TT. The mug, decorated with a diving motif and seashells, was sold through an auction, the Swedish news agency reported on Wednesday.
The sale was covered by several Nordic outlets, including Aftonbladet, Expressen and the Finnish newspaper HBL, all of which described the result as a record. Omni reported the price in Swedish kronor as 518,000. Via TT gave the figure in euros, stating the mug went for over 46,000 euros.
The mug's design, which shows a diving scene with seashells, places it among the rarer pieces sought by collectors of Moomin tableware. Demand for discontinued and limited-production Moomin mugs has grown in recent years, with individual pieces regularly drawing bids far above their original retail prices.

The previous record for a Moomin mug is not specified in the reporting. What is clear from the coverage is that this sale now stands as the highest known price for a single mug from the series.
Collectors and auction watchers will be looking to see whether the result lifts prices for other rare Moomin mugs in upcoming sales, or whether it remains an isolated high point for one unusual piece.
