The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said monsoon rains will continue to prevail across most parts of Luzon and the Visayas, according to The Manila Times. The forecast covers Saturday, August 8, 2026, as the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat, remains active over the region.

The Manila Times reports that the weather bureau expects the wet conditions to persist, with the Inquirer noting that Habagat will keep bringing rain over parts of Luzon through the weekend. The persistent rainfall is being enhanced by a tropical cyclone named Dolphin, according to Philstar. The storm has strengthened the monsoon, leading to more widespread precipitation than would otherwise occur under normal seasonal conditions.

Separately, the Manila Standard reported that a low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has developed into a tropical depression. While this system is not directly within the country's monitoring zone, its interaction with the monsoon is contributing to the ongoing wet weather. The Philippine News Agency added that the Ilocos Region remains on red alert amid the weather disturbance, signaling heightened preparedness for potential flooding or other hazards.

Forecasters have not indicated an immediate end to the rainy conditions. Residents in affected areas, particularly in Luzon and the Visayas, should continue monitoring local weather updates and heed any advisories from disaster preparedness officials.

What to watch next: Whether the tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility moves closer and further intensifies the monsoon.
