AZ drew level against FC Groningen on Sunday afternoon in the Eredivisie, with Mexx Meerdink scoring the equaliser inside ten minutes of Groningen taking the lead. According to De Telegraaf, the goal brought the home side back to 1-1 shortly after they had fallen behind.
The match had started badly for AZ. RTV Noord reported that Groningen's advantage did not last long, with AZ responding quickly to make it 1-1. AD.nl described AZ as chasing a lead after Meerdink's swift equaliser, while NH Nieuws characterised the goal as a rapid recovery from a poor start for the home team.
De Telegraaf covered the fixture in a live blog, and OOG Groningen included it in a Sunday broadcast schedule alongside Donar and Lycurgus. The reports do not give the minute of Groningen's opening goal or the exact time of Meerdink's equaliser.
The equaliser changed the shape of the contest, turning a deficit into a platform for AZ to push for the advantage. According to AD.nl, the home side were hunting a second goal after Meerdink's strike.
What to watch next: whether AZ turn their quick response into a winning position, and how Groningen react after losing their lead so soon after taking it.
