Mexico’s civil protection agency has issued safety recommendations for residents in several states as forecasters predict heavy rainfall on Friday, according to N+. People are being advised to stay indoors, keep away from windows, and avoid standing under trees during the storms.
The alert comes as weather systems, including a tropical wave, the Mexican monsoon, and troughs, are expected to bring strong thunderstorms to more than 15 states, Meteored México reports. The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) said it is maintaining coordination with all three levels of government in response to the forecast, which also includes high temperatures in parts of the country, according to a statement from gob.mx.
Local forecasts highlight the severity of the conditions. In the state of Colima, authorities predict heavy rain, temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, and elevated waves along the coast, El Comentario reports. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) warns of extreme weather over the weekend, including thunderstorms with electrical activity and temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius in some areas, according to Xataka México.

The combination of heavy rain and heat poses risks for flooding, lightning strikes, and other hazards. Civil protection officials are urging residents in the affected states to follow the safety guidance closely and monitor official updates. The warnings are particularly relevant for those in coastal areas and regions prone to sudden downpours.
Residents should pay attention to local alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during the heaviest rainfall. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the weather systems develop over the coming days.
