A senior Mexican government official has launched a sharp attack on opposition parties over the visa case involving Andy López Beltrán, the son of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Ariadna Montiel, a prominent Morena figure, accused the opposition alliance of betrayal, corruption, and fuel theft, according to El Universal.

Montiel’s comments came in response to the National Action Party (PAN) demanding an investigation into Andy López Beltrán’s U.S. visa. The PAN has questioned the circumstances around the visa, prompting a heated political exchange. Montiel dismissed the criticism as hypocritical, according to SinEmbargo.

In her remarks, Montiel also claimed the opposition alliance, which she referred to as "PRIAN," has aligned itself with foreign interests. Excélsior reported that she accused the bloc of surrendering to external agendas. She specifically targeted Jorge Romero, a PAN leader, saying he was seeking protection abroad after questioning the visa, as reported by Infobae.

Morena officials have escalated the rhetoric, describing PAN members as cynical, hypocritical, and traitors to the country, according to Proceso. The dispute centers on Andy López Beltrán, whose visa status has become a flashpoint in Mexico’s ongoing political tensions.

The visa case has drawn attention because of the president’s son’s public profile and the political weight attached to any scrutiny of the López Obrador family. Opposition parties have pressed for transparency, while Morena has framed the inquiries as politically motivated attacks.

Montiel’s statements reflect a broader strategy by Morena to counter opposition criticism by portraying the PAN and its allies as out of touch with national interests. The exchange highlights the deepening polarization ahead of upcoming political contests.

What to watch next: whether the PAN will push for a formal investigation into the visa matter or shift focus to other issues in the coming weeks.
