The Masaka High Court has scheduled November 30 as the date for its decision in a parliamentary election petition concerning Kakuuto County in Kyotera District, according to NTV Uganda.

Judge Joyce Kavuma closed the hearing after the petitioner, Geoffrey Lutaaya of the National Unity Platform, gave his own testimony and called ten witnesses. Lutaaya is contesting the outcome of the race against Ismael Lubega Kaka of the National Resistance Movement.

NTV Uganda reports that Lutaaya's case centres on claims of irregularities in the election. The hearing has now ended, leaving the judge to weigh the evidence before issuing her ruling at the end of next month.

Election petitions of this kind are decided by the courts rather than at the ballot, and the outcome in Kakuuto County will determine which party holds the seat. The case is one of several filed after the recent elections, with the judiciary handling challenges to declared results across the country.

What to watch next: Judge Kavuma's ruling on November 30, which will settle the Kakuuto County contest unless either side seeks to appeal.
