Marrone recalled a helicopter crash that took place in Rio Preto 15 years ago, speaking during the wake for singer Rick, according to G1. The reference was made as the sertanejo community gathered to mourn Rick, whose death has drawn tributes from across Brazilian music.
G1 reports that the accident Marrone mentioned occurred in Rio Preto roughly a decade and a half ago. The outlet revisited the incident in its coverage of Rick's wake, connecting the earlier event to the current moment of grief.
Rick's death has prompted reactions from several prominent figures. Fellow sertanejo artist Renner spoke publicly for the first time since the loss, telling reporters that the show cannot stop, according to Extra online and UOL. Zezé Di Camargo was visibly emotional when discussing Rick, describing him as a brother of the heart, CNN Brasil reported.
Separately, a friend of the pilot involved in the crash that killed Rick said the pilot had previously reported problems with the helicopter, according to Jovem Pan. That account has not been independently confirmed in the material available.
The coming days are likely to bring further statements from artists and, potentially, updates from investigators examining the circumstances of the crash.
