A person was shot in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm on Friday afternoon, according to police. SOS Alarm told Dagens Nyheter that two people were taken to hospital.

Police wrote on their website that the gunfire happened next to a car in a residential area, Dagens Nyheter reports. The alarm was raised at 4:47 pm.

The police statement did not say whether the two people taken to hospital included the person who was shot. It also gave no information about their condition.

Reporting from other Swedish outlets pointed to a fatal outcome. Aftonbladet and SVT Nyheter both reported that a man had died after the shooting, with Aftonbladet describing him as being in his mid-20s. Those accounts had not been confirmed in the police statement cited by Dagens Nyheter.

Omni carried an interview with a witness who said they first thought children were playing before realising what had happened.

Bagarmossen is a residential district in the southern part of the city. Police have not said whether anyone has been arrested or whether they are treating the case as linked to any other incident.

Details remain limited, and the account of what happened rests largely on the police statement and on the reporting by Aftonbladet and SVT.

What to watch next: whether police confirm the death reported by Aftonbladet and SVT, and whether they release further details about a suspect or a motive.
