Brazil’s former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will hold his second campaign event in Belo Horizonte this Saturday, August 29, according to Brazilian news outlet O TEMPO. The rally is part of a broader push in the state of Minas Gerais as the presidential race tightens.
O TEMPO reports that the event marks Lula’s return to the capital city after an earlier campaign stop. The Workers’ Party (PT) has also announced a separate mobilization titled “Women with Lula,” which brings together female leaders to strengthen outreach to women voters, a key demographic in the election.
According to Metrópoles, Lula’s visit to Minas Gerais comes as polls show him statistically tied with rival Flávio in the state. The outlet notes that the campaign is specifically targeting the female electorate, which could prove decisive in a close race. Valor Econômico also confirms that Lula has a full schedule of campaign activities in Minas Gerais, though details of the Saturday agenda were not fully disclosed.
The Saturday rally in Belo Horizonte follows a pattern of aggressive campaigning in the region, which is seen as a crucial battleground. Poder360 provided live coverage of the event, indicating the high level of media attention surrounding the appearance.
Observers will be watching whether the focus on women voters and the repeated visits to Minas Gerais can shift momentum in Lula’s favor ahead of the vote. The state’s large electorate makes it a priority for both campaigns, and Saturday’s event is expected to draw significant crowds and further shape the narrative of the race.
