Lokomotiv Moscow welcome Rubin Kazan to RZD Arena on Friday, 6 November 2026, for a 14th-round fixture in the Russian Premier League season 2026/27, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30 Moscow time. Both clubs arrive in the middle of difficult campaigns, and Metaratings has published a forecast for the match together with the statistics behind it.
Metaratings reports that Lokomotiv are in the midst of a coaching crisis. Mikhail Galaktionov, in charge since November 2022, informed the club's leadership of his wish to leave, prompting an unscheduled board meeting to confirm his departure and the terms of his compensation. The outlet traces the trouble further back: over the summer the railwaymen sold Aleksei Batrakov to Galatasaray along with a number of other players, and no equivalent replacements were found.
Why it matters
The match matters because both teams are running out of room to drift. Lokomotiv finished third last season but have won only twice in 13 rounds this term, leaving them 14th and one point away from the 12th place that would lift them clear of danger. Rubin, eighth last season, sit tenth with three wins from 13 games and only 13 goals scored, three points above the relegation play-off zone. For a club of Lokomotiv's recent standing, a home fixture against a mid-table opponent is the kind of game that shapes the mood around a squad already unsettled by a managerial change.
A fall from third place
Metaratings describes Lokomotiv's current run as a drawn-out decline. The team have gone three rounds without a win: they let victory slip against Krasnodar in a 3:3 draw, lost 0:2 to Rostov, and were beaten 0:4 at home by Spartak in their most recent outing. The outlet frames the summer departures as the root of the problem, with the squad unable to cover the loss of Batrakov and others who left.
Rubin have already been through their own coaching change. According to Metaratings, Frank Artiga, who had worked with the team since the start of 2026, lost his position on 24 October, immediately after a home defeat to Krylia Sovetov. Oleg Kuzmin, a Spartak academy product who spent the best years of his playing career at Rubin and has said he is ready to take the job on a permanent basis, stepped in as caretaker. Players have noted that the side has improved above all in discipline under him, the outlet reports.
Kazan's autumn was poor: six consecutive rounds without a win, including a 0:4 thrashing by Spartak. They ended that run in the previous round at home to Fakel, grinding out a 1:0 win in a scrappy game.
Head-to-head and the bookmakers' view
The two clubs have met 58 times in official competition, per Metaratings. Lokomotiv have won 25 of those, Rubin 14, and 19 ended level. Last season in the Russian Premier League they traded home victories: Lokomotiv won 1:0 in the autumn, and Rubin answered with a 3:0 win in the spring.
Analysts at the bookmaker Winline make Lokomotiv the favourite, pricing a home win at 2.05, a Rubin victory at 3.50 and a draw also at 3.50. The bookmaker expects a match short on goals, offering 2.00 on over 2.5 goals and 1.80 on under 2.5. Winline's experts lean toward both teams scoring, with "yes" at 1.80 and "no" at 2.00.
Metaratings' own reasoning rests on two observations. The first is Lokomotiv's record against this opponent on their own pitch, where they have won three consecutive meetings, which the outlet sees as a promising basis for backing the hosts despite their personnel problems. The second is a shared scoring drought: Rubin have not scored more than once in seven straight rounds, while Lokomotiv have failed to pass that mark in their last five head-to-head meetings with Kazan, and in seven consecutive encounters between the clubs neither side has produced more than three goals combined. Added to that, says Metaratings, is the atmosphere around the hosts, where the head coach has effectively said goodbye and talk of his successor is consuming more attention than preparation for the opponent.
On that basis, the outlet names under 2.5 goals as its preferred selection, with "both teams to score – no" as a secondary option worth considering.
What to watch
Beyond the result, the evening will show whether Lokomotiv can steady themselves amid the fallout from Galaktionov's exit, and whether Kuzmin's emphasis on discipline continues to hold Rubin together. Kick-off at RZD Arena is at 19:30 Moscow time.
