Leinster came from 13 points behind to defeat Munster 24-18 in a bruising United Rugby Championship derby at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, according to BBC.

Munster had led 13-0 through Shane Daly's try and eight points from the boot of 20-year-old fly-half Charlie O'Shea, but Leinster responded with 24 unanswered points before a late Ben O'Connor try gave the visitors a losing bonus point.

The result echoes last year's meeting at Croke Park, when Munster also produced a stirring performance against their rivals, though this time Leinster's persistence told.

Why it matters

The win gives Leinster a bonus point in the URC table and bragging rights in one of Irish rugby's fiercest rivalries, with both squads now set to lose their internationals to Ireland camp ahead of November's Nations Championship fixtures.

For Munster, the defeat will sting given their early control of the contest. BBC reports that only two of their players made the latest Ireland squad, and they arrived in Dublin with something to prove.

Munster's fast start

Munster looked sharp from the opening exchanges. O'Shea kicked a penalty after James Ryan was penalised for a high tackle on Kieran Brookes, and the visitors found joy at both the set-piece and the breakdown.

Their opening try came from a flowing move involving O'Shea, Sean O'Brien and Craig Casey, which put Daly through. O'Shea then added a wind-assisted penalty from just inside his own half after Alex Nankivell forced a turnover, stretching the lead to 13-0.

Leinster needed something before the interval, and Jamison Gibson-Park provided it. The scrum-half, one of 11 British and Irish Lions in Leinster's starting line-up, delivered a precise pass from a scrum five metres out to right winger Tommy O'Brien, who beat Ben O'Connor to score.

The first half also brought controversy when Munster back row Gavin Coombes claimed he had been grabbed in the groin by a Leinster player. According to BBC, referee Andrew Brace consulted the television match official and told Munster captain Tadhg Beirne there was no conclusive footage to review, though the incident could be referred to the citing commissioner.

The second-half swing

Early in the second half, a penalty awarded to Munster was reversed after a late tackle by Brookes. Leinster kicked into Munster territory and, nearly ten minutes later, Ryan Baird forced his way over after sustained pressure, with Nankivell sin-binned following a series of Munster infringements in the build-up.

Joey Carbery, starting in place of the injured Sam Prendergast in his first appearance since returning to Leinster, converted to bring the hosts within a point.

With Nankivell off the field, Leinster capitalised on a missed Munster line-out to launch an attack that ended with Gibson-Park setting up Charlie Tector, giving the home side the lead for the first time with 16 minutes remaining. Gibson-Park finished with three try assists.

After a lengthy stoppage following a serious injury to Daly, Leinster pushed for the bonus-point score and found it when Gibson-Park sent Jamie Osborne through with eight minutes left.

O'Connor crossed in the final minute to ensure Munster did not leave Dublin empty-handed, but BBC reports that, given their early ascendancy, it was a disappointing night for the visitors.

Leinster travel to Connacht in another interprovincial fixture on Friday at 19:45 GMT, while Munster host the Sharks at Thomond Park on Saturday at 17:30.
