French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu continued a series of meetings at Matignon on Thursday, receiving political parties as well as the mayors of Paris, Lyon and Marseille, according to Le Monde.fr. The talks came in the wake of the October 17 demonstrations, which the outlet covered in a live feed.

On the same day, President Emmanuel Macron convened the intelligence services at the Élysée for a security council meeting, Le Figaro and franceinfo reported. According to Le Figaro, the agencies stand accused of having poorly anticipated the October 17 mobilisation, which was marked by urban violence.

The political response extended beyond the government. RTL reported that Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the figure behind La France Insoumise, called on his supporters to mobilise ahead of a second round of Gilets jaunes action, telling them they were all "réquisitionnés." Le Monde.fr's live coverage also noted the involvement of political parties and the three city mayors in Thursday's round of consultations.

The day's agenda was not limited to politics. 20 Minutes grouped Lecornu's meetings with the parties alongside deadly severe weather and defeats for Lille and Lens.

What to watch next: whether the Matignon consultations produce concrete commitments, and what the Élysée security council concludes about how the intelligence services handled the run-up to October 17.
