South Korea is seeing unusually large gaps between daytime and nighttime temperatures, KBS 뉴스 reported on Saturday. According to the broadcaster, rain is expected to begin in the central region from tomorrow night, with conditions shifting through the holiday period.

KBS 뉴스 also reported that strong winds are forecast for the final day of the holiday. Other Korean outlets carried similar warnings, with v.daum.net reporting that rain will fall in various parts of the country starting tomorrow night and that powerful winds will arrive on the last day of the break.

Saturday marks Cheongwaejeol, or National Foundation Day. YTN reported that daytime conditions were cool and autumn-like, with fall festivals taking place in city centers. The Kyeonghyang Shinmun described the day as chilly, with daytime highs around 25 degrees Celsius, clear skies turning cloudier from the afternoon. Yonhap News reported that the country would be clear before clouds increased, and advised people to mind their health given the wide temperature differences.

The combination of warm daytime highs and cooler nights is the pattern forecasters are flagging, and the coming rain and wind are expected to mark a change as the holiday period wraps up.

What to watch next: whether the rain spreads beyond the central region and how strong the winds become on the holiday's final day.
