Detectives in Kenya have arrested a second person in connection with a robbery in Parklands, Nairobi, in which a man was attacked and stripped of his belongings on camera, The Star, Kenya reports.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was taken into custody during an intelligence-led operation in the Deep Sea informal settlements, which sit in the Parklands-Highridge area of the city. The arrest was announced on Friday, 23 October 2026.

According to the agency, intelligence work tied the man to the violent robbery shown in footage that spread widely online. The DCI said the video captured a member of the public being attacked and robbed of his valuables in Parklands.

Why it matters

The case has drawn unusual public attention because the attack was recorded and shared across social media, where it prompted widespread concern about violent street crime in the capital. The footage gave investigators a visual record of the incident, and the DCI has now used it to make two arrests within days.

The agency framed the second arrest as a further breakthrough in the investigation. It also said the remaining suspect is still being sought, signalling that detectives regard the case as unfinished.

What the video showed

The DCI's account describes a group of people assaulting the victim, who was seen on the ground while the alleged attackers went through his belongings. The assailants were then seen running off with what they had taken, leaving the man on his feet and apparently helpless after the attack, according to the agency's description.

The clip circulated widely enough to generate public alarm and to trigger the investigation that has now produced two suspects in custody.

First arrest came earlier in the week

The second arrest follows the apprehension of another suspect along the Northern Bypass earlier on Wednesday, also after an intelligence-led operation, The Star, Kenya reports. The DCI said that first suspect was among the men visible in the viral footage.

With two people now held, the agency said detectives are narrowing in on the remaining accomplice, who has not been caught. In its statement, the DCI described the pair of arrests as progress in the continuing inquiry.

The agency did not release further information about how the robbery unfolded or what role each suspect is alleged to have played. It also did not name either suspect.

The DCI said it remains committed to tracking down people suspected of involvement in crime, breaking up criminal networks and bringing to justice those it says endanger public safety.

The second suspect remains in custody while detectives complete processing ahead of a court appearance. The timing of that arraignment has not been disclosed.

Watch for the arraignment of the two suspects and for any word from the DCI on the third person it says is still at large.
