A second person has been rescued from the rubble of a building that collapsed in Eastleigh, a neighbourhood in Kenya's capital, Nairobi. The Kenya Red Cross said a trapped man was freed alive and taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, according to The Star, Kenya.
The rescue service reported that 66 of the 67 workers at the site had been accounted for, and that the search of the debris was continuing. The Star, Kenya reported the rescue on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
The collapse drew attention from several outlets. The BBC reported that seven people were missing after the tall building came down in the capital, while Al Jazeera also reported that a number of people were unaccounted for. The Daily Nation described families waiting at the scene and clinging to hope as rescuers worked to reach those still trapped.
The Red Cross figure of 66 workers accounted for, against a total of 67, indicates that one person remained unaccounted for as of the rescue announcement. The Star, Kenya did not provide further details on the condition of the man taken to hospital.
The Eastleigh collapse adds to concerns about building safety in Nairobi, though the reporting did not identify a cause for this incident.
What to watch next: whether the search concludes and the remaining worker is found, and whether authorities comment on the cause of the collapse.
