Two Kano emirs, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, could be arrested for breaching public peace, The Guardian Nigeria News reports, after events linked to the Durbar in Kano.

The Guardian Nigeria News says both men risk arrest over a breach of peace. The report was published on Friday, 2 October 2026.

The dispute centres on the Durbar, the traditional horse-riding procession, and a ban on it. Vanguard News reports that the police say the ban on durbar and horse riding in Kano remains in force. Daily Trust reports that Bayero's camp objected after Sanusi rode a horse to a public event despite that ban.

Legit News, reporting in Hausa, said Bayero's side was watching to see whether Sanusi would be punished over the horse riding. The BBC also covered the wider question of when the Kano emirate dispute will end.

The Kano emirate has been contested between Sanusi and Bayero, and the durbar ban has become a flashpoint in that rivalry. The competing reports show the two camps at odds over whether Sanusi's horse ride broke the police restriction, with Bayero's supporters pressing the point and the police restating the ban.

What to watch next: whether the police act on the reported arrest risk, and whether either emir faces any formal sanction over the durbar events.
