Jagiellonia Białystok secured a 1-0 win over Wisła Płock in the 12th round of the Ekstraklasa on Sunday, with Ousmane Sow scoring the only goal in the 83rd minute. According to SportoweFakty, the hosts struggled for long stretches before substitute Kajetan Szmyt delivered a cross that Sow converted.
The result gives Jagiellonia their first league victory since September 6, ending a run of four matches without a win that had raised questions about the team's form.
Why it matters
The three points relieve pressure on a side that had been sliding in the Polish top flight. SportoweFakty described the win as one that will let the team breathe easier after recent setbacks, and Interia Sport framed it as the end of a difficult sequence for the Białystok club.
The match also highlighted the depth of Adrian Siemieniec's squad. The Jagiellonia coach, who watched from indoors while staying in constant contact with his staff, made eight changes to the starting lineup compared with the team's Europa League fixture against Anderlecht. In the end, it was two players brought off the bench — Szmyt and Sow — who decided the outcome.
A match that turned on the substitutions
For much of the afternoon, it looked as though Jagiellonia would be frustrated again. SportoweFakty reported that the game remained goalless and that the hosts' dominance in the first half did not translate into a goal.
Sergio Lozano had two clear opportunities before the break. His long-range effort was saved by Wisła goalkeeper Rafał Leszczyński, and he then failed to convert from close range, wasting what the outlet described as an almost certain assist from Nik Prelec. Taras Romanczuk also headed wide from a corner.
Wisła, initially pinned back, grew into the contest as the half wore on. Samuel Akere was their most active player and produced their best attempt of the opening period, which Michał Perchel dealt with comfortably in the Jagiellonia goal.
The game changed after the interval substitutions. Szmyt and Sow injected energy into the home side, and once the goal arrived, Wisła were unable to respond. SportoweFakty noted that the visitors posed essentially no threat to Perchel's goal after falling behind.
Team selections reflect rotation and reaction
Siemieniec's lineup featured Perchel in goal behind Rodrigo Conceicao, Dusan Stojinović, Apostolos Konstantopoulos and Guilherme Montoia. Jeremy Agbonifo, Romanczuk, Lozano, Jesus Imaz and Aleksandar Ćirković formed the midfield and attacking line, with Prelec leading the attack.
Agbonifo and Ćirković made way for Szmyt and Sow on 59 minutes. Imaz was replaced by Anders Klynge on 71 minutes, while Lozano and Prelec came off for Eryk Kozłowski and Dimitris Rallis late on.
Wisła coach's starting eleven included Leszczyński behind Żan Rogelj, Marcus Haglind-Sangre, Marcin Kamiński, Afonso Silva and Dion Gallapeni. Akere, Jurica Prsir, Sidnei Tavares and Patryk Kun supported Łukasz Sekulski up front.
Tavares was forced off after just 13 minutes, with Fabian Hiszpański coming on. Akere was withdrawn for Olaf Kobacki on 58 minutes, and Prsir, Kun and Sekulski were all replaced in the 82nd minute by Deni Jurić, Said Hamulic and Marcin Flis respectively.
What to watch
Jagiellonia will look to build on the result and turn a single win into a run, while Wisła must find a response after a defeat in which they created little once behind.
