Indonesians who purchase the iPhone 18 or the iPhone Duo overseas will owe import duties and taxes when bringing the devices home, according to MUC Consulting. The firm published a breakdown of how those charges are calculated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

MUC Consulting's report focuses on the duty and tax math that applies to handsets bought outside the country. A separate figure reported by Kompas.com, citing customs authorities, put the combined import duty and value-added tax on an iPhone Duo purchased abroad at Rp 8 million. CNN Indonesia also covered the question of how much tax applies to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo when bought from overseas.

The topic has drawn attention alongside the phones' expected arrival in the Indonesian market. Detik's inet.detik.com reported that the iPhone 18 Pro Max has cleared TKDN and Postel requirements, the local content and telecommunications certification processes, and that retailer Erajaya said it is ready. Kumparan.com, meanwhile, ran a poll asking readers which iPhone they would choose once the models are released in Indonesia.

The coverage so far centers on two things: what buyers pay at the border, and when the devices go on sale locally. MUC Consulting's article addresses the first; the certification and retail reports point to progress on the second.

What to watch next is whether customs publishes an official calculation example for each model, and when Indonesian retailers confirm launch dates and pricing.
