The Indonesian government has opened registration for the first batch of the SMK Go Global training program, according to detikcom. The program, which began accepting applicants on August 12, is designed to prepare vocational high school students for work in international markets.
The initiative is being run by KP2MI, the Indonesian agency responsible for migrant worker placement and protection, as reported by Kompas.com. The first phase of training will focus on equipping students with skills needed for employment abroad, with specific countries and professional fields listed in the program details.
The program has drawn particular attention in East Java, where officials see potential for the province to become a center for preparing high-quality Indonesian migrant workers, according to Antara News. Local reports from Memorandum.co.id suggest the initiative is part of a broader push to develop professional human resources capable of competing in global labor markets.
SMK Go Global is being positioned as a pathway for young Indonesian talent to enter international employment, as noted by Bela Rakyat. The program combines vocational training with preparation for overseas work, addressing a growing demand for skilled Indonesian workers in foreign markets.
The opening of the first batch signals a coordinated effort between national agencies and regional governments to formalize the pipeline from vocational education to international employment. East Java's involvement suggests the program may have a strong regional focus, with local authorities already positioning themselves as key players in the initiative.
Observers will be watching how many students enroll in the first batch and whether the program expands to additional provinces in subsequent rounds. The success of this initial phase could determine the scale of future SMK Go Global offerings.
