Indian government sources have clarified that the decision to hold a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump without a question-and-answer session was standard procedure for high-profile visits, according to multiple reports.

The clarification follows remarks by Sergio Gor, a US official, who suggested the Indian side had requested that no questions be taken during the event. The Times of India first reported the government's response, with officials stating that such arrangements are "normal practice for VVIP visits."

The Hindu, citing sources, reported that Indian officials followed "standard practice" in organizing the interaction. Hindustan Times similarly quoted Ministry of External Affairs sources describing the move as "standard policy for VVIP visits."

The Times of India also reported separately that India had been cautious about Trump's "unpredictable behaviour" and therefore chose not to hold a joint press conference with the former president. NDTV, citing sources, echoed this reasoning, pointing to concerns over Trump's conduct.

The meeting between Modi and Trump drew attention after Gor's public remarks created a stir. Indian officials have consistently pushed back, emphasizing that the format was neither unusual nor a departure from established diplomatic norms.

The reports do not specify the exact date or location of the meeting, nor do they detail what Gor said beyond his claim about the "no questions" request.

Observers will be watching whether further statements from either side clarify the circumstances around the event, or if the exchange signals any friction in the bilateral relationship.
