Police in Hoogeveen have detained more young people after several days of unrest in the town, NOS reported on Tuesday evening. The broadcaster said the situation has been unsettled in Hoogeveen for days, with further arrests announced as the disruption continued.
The disturbances have centred on the town centre, according to the Hoogeveensche Courant, which reported that two people were held and that unrest in the area was persisting. AD.nl described the situation as a cat-and-mouse dynamic between police and groups of young people.
Local business owners have also reported rising nuisance, RTV Drenthe said, with one describing the situation as having reached its limit. De Telegraaf reported that an unusually large group of young people had caused days of disruption, and that the municipality had expressed frustration, questioning where the parents were.
The reports do not give a total number of arrests, the ages of those detained, or details of any specific incidents. The accounts come from several Dutch outlets covering the same period of unrest in the Drenthe town.
It is not yet clear whether further arrests will follow or how long the disruption will last.
