The full Harvest Moon will rise this weekend, Forbes reports. The publication notes that this particular full moon is different from the usual event, though it does not say in the headline why.
Sky at Night Magazine also reports on the same moon, describing it as the Harvest Moon and explaining that an ancient tradition lies behind the name. That outlet adds that the moon will meet a planet this weekend, giving observers something to look for alongside the full moon itself.
According to Forbes, the moon reaches its full phase this weekend. The two reports together point to a single event: the Harvest Moon at full phase, appearing near a planet in the sky.
The Harvest Moon is the name given to the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, a tradition Sky at Night Magazine traces to ancient practice. Forbes frames this year's appearance as one that stands apart from other Harvest Moons, though the headline alone does not explain the reason.
Both outlets published their reports on Thursday, 24 September 2026, ahead of the weekend event. Sky at Night Magazine also offers guidance on how to view the moon as it meets the planet.
What to watch next: skywatchers should check the weekend forecast and look for the full Harvest Moon and its meeting with the planet, as described by Forbes and Sky at Night Magazine.
