Hartalega, the Malaysian rubber glove manufacturer, reported its highest quarterly profit since 2022 for the first quarter of its fiscal year, according to The Edge Malaysia. The company’s net profit for the period came in at RM70.03 million, a figure that The Star also highlighted in its coverage.

The earnings surge was driven by stronger selling prices and improved margins, as reported by The Malaysian Reserve. BusinessToday Malaysia noted that the profit increase represented a roughly six-fold jump year-over-year, while The Malaysian Reserve described the gain as more than fivefold. The Edge Malaysia attributed the performance to better average selling prices that lifted the company’s profitability.

The company’s results come amid a mixed outlook for the sector. NST Online reported that a recent natural gas tariff adjustment in Malaysia is expected to raise Hartalega’s production costs, which could limit further gains in average selling prices. The tariff change adds a headwind for the glove maker even as it enjoys the current boost from pricing power.

Hartalega’s first-quarter performance marks a notable recovery from the weaker earnings it posted in recent years, when the industry faced oversupply and falling demand after the pandemic-era boom. The latest results suggest that pricing conditions have improved enough to restore margins to levels not seen in roughly four years.

Looking ahead, investors will be watching whether Hartalega can sustain its pricing momentum in the face of rising natural gas costs. The company’s ability to pass on those higher expenses to customers will likely determine whether this profit rebound continues into the next quarter.
