Grand Theft Auto 6 has been assigned an 18+ rating by PEGI, the European games age-rating body, according to GameGPU. The classification was issued on the grounds of violence, drug-related material and sexual content contained in the game.

GameGPU reported the rating decision on Friday, October 2, 2026. PEGI 18 is the highest age category the board applies, reserved for titles it judges suitable only for adult players.

The rating places GTA 6 in the same bracket as earlier entries in the series, which have long carried adult-only classifications in Europe. PEGI's system is used across much of the continent to label games sold at retail and through digital storefronts, and an 18 mark restricts purchase to buyers of legal adult age in the markets where it applies.

According to GameGPU, the three content areas PEGI flagged were violence, drugs and sexual content. The report did not detail which specific scenes or mechanics prompted the classification, and no further breakdown of the board's reasoning was provided.

Age ratings are typically one of the final administrative steps before a major release, though they do not by themselves confirm a launch date. Rockstar Games has not commented publicly on the PEGI decision in the material reviewed.

What to watch next: whether other regional boards, including North America's ESRB, publish their own ratings for GTA 6, and whether Rockstar responds to the PEGI classification.
