Google is changing which Gemini models are available on its subscription plans, Mashable reports. According to Mashable, the shift affects free users in particular, while 9to5Google reports that the Gemini app is now limiting the models open to free and AI Plus subscribers. At the same time, AI Pro accounts are gaining access to a feature called Deep Think, according to 9to5Google.

TechRadar also covered the change, describing it as a revision to which models users can reach on Google's Gemini AI plans. The reporting does not specify which individual models are being removed or restricted, or the exact date the changes take effect.

The move fits a broader pattern noted in coverage of the shift. Chosun Ilbo characterized the access cuts at Google and OpenAI as a de facto increase in AI fees, since users who want the same capabilities may need to move to a higher tier. Separately, Pasquale Pillitteri reported that Claude Opus 5.5 has arrived on Antigravity but is limited to Pro and Ultra subscribers — another example of advanced models sitting behind paid tiers.

What to watch next: whether Google publishes a full breakdown of which models each tier can access, and whether free and AI Plus users see further limits as Deep Think rolls out to AI Pro.
