GMO Internet said on October 28 that a website where personal information attributed to users of its foreign-exchange trading cloud service had been posted is no longer reachable, according to 読売新聞. The company reported that a US-based domain operator suspended the domain used to reach the site, and that the site went dark at around 4 a.m. that day. GMO had asked the operator to take the domain down.

The breach involved unauthorized access to GMO's FX cloud service. GMO said it has not confirmed any new site set up by the attackers as of 7 p.m. on October 28, though it acknowledged that possibility remains.

GMO is urging people not to circulate the leaked material and says it may pursue legal action, including a criminal complaint. By 6 p.m. on October 28, it had warned the authors of 20 posts on X (formerly Twitter) to delete them, 読売新聞 reports.

The company has offered a bounty totaling $1 million (about 160 million yen) for information that helps clarify the case. It received 113 submissions in the six hours after the offer opened at noon on October 28.

Separately, TBS NEWS DIG reported that the hacker group's site went down, possibly through action by a US provider, and that the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating on suspicion of unauthorized access and other violations. 47NEWS reported that Tokyo police have taken protective measures for individuals whose personal data was exposed.

Watch for whether the attackers resurface on a new domain and how many of the bounty tips prove useful.
