Ghana's most recent treasury bill auction closed with demand falling about 4% below the amount the government had targeted, citinewsroom.com reported on Monday, 21 September 2026. Yields on the short-term securities declined at the same sale, according to the outlet.

The shortfall was also picked up by other Ghanaian outlets. GhanaWeb reported that the government missed its GH¢4.1 billion target for the auction, while MyJoyOnline, as carried by UA.NEWS, said demand for the bills came in under the intended amount. CNBC Africa had earlier noted that investors were turning their attention to the GH¢4.12 billion auction.

In a separate debt operation, Modern Ghana reported that the government raised GH¢3.15 billion from bids placed for a four-year bond.

The results point to a market where investors are seeking lower returns on government paper even as the state looks to borrow a set amount. When an auction is undersubscribed, the government receives less than it asked for, which can affect how much it raises from that particular sale. The reports did not give a reason for the softer demand or explain the drop in yields.
