The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has called for an investigation into an incident where police officers allegedly assaulted students from the Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Techiman. The students were protesting over welfare conditions when police reportedly fired gunshots to disperse them, according to Graphic Online.
The protest, which took place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, involved students demanding improvements to their welfare and the removal of the college principal. Multiple reports from outlets including Yen News and GhanaWeb describe a confrontation in which police used firearms while students threw stones. Video footage of the clash has circulated online, showing the exchange between the two groups.
Graphic Online reports that NUGS is now demanding a formal probe into the police response. The student union has accused officers of using excessive force against the demonstrators. The students' grievances include poor living conditions and what they describe as a dismissive attitude from the principal, who allegedly told one student that "nursing is not for the poor," according to Adomonline.com.

The incident has drawn attention to ongoing tensions at the college, where students have been calling for administrative changes alongside better welfare provisions. Asaase Radio reported that the protest specifically demanded the principal's removal.
Authorities have not yet announced any official investigation into the police conduct. NUGS is expected to continue pressing for accountability in the coming days.
