Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is questioning the Economic and Organised Crime Office's stated reasons for attempting to arrest him, according to Graphic Online. The report, published on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, says the lawmaker is pressing EOCO to explain the grounds behind the move against him.

The attempted arrest has drawn reactions from other legislators. MyJoyOnline reported that MP Francis-Xavier Sosu challenged the basis for the action against his colleague, while GhanaWeb carried comments from the Manhyia South MP in which he criticized Raymond Archer, a figure connected to EOCO, over past conduct.

The episode has also renewed discussion about how parliamentary privilege interacts with law enforcement. GhanaWeb reported that former Majority Leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu explained how Speaker Alban Bagbin has changed what he described as the "architecture" around the arrest of MPs. A separate piece in Modern Ghana examined the wider balance between parliamentary protections and accountable governance in Ghana.

Under Ghana's constitutional arrangements, MPs enjoy certain immunities, and the process for detaining or prosecuting a sitting legislator has long been a subject of debate. The current dispute adds another case to that ongoing argument, with EOCO's account of its reasons now being publicly contested by the MP it targeted.

Watch for EOCO's formal response to Baffour Awuah's questions, and for any further statements from parliamentary leadership on the handling of cases involving sitting MPs.
