Badminton competition for the youth and industry divisions of the 18th Fujian Provincial Games began on November 7 in Datian County, according to 中国新闻网. The event brings together 24 teams and 293 athletes from across the province.
中国新闻网 reports that play continues through November 15 and is split into team and individual phases, using group round-robin, knockout and placement matches. Seven events are contested: men's and women's team, men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The youth division is divided into three age groups — A, B and C — while the industry division does not include mixed doubles.
On the opening day, the venue was loud with the sound of shuttle strikes and cheering, 中国新闻网 reported. Players settled in quickly, mixing precise serves, soft drop shots, hard smashes and net interceptions, with attack and defense switching smoothly.
Luo Kejia, an athlete from the Sanming team, said it was her first time paired with her partner and that they clicked well, winning their first doubles match in the morning's team event. Competing at her first provincial games, she said she hopes to keep improving and place well in both the individual and team events for Sanming.
With more than a week of matches ahead, attention turns to how the team phase sets up the individual draws and which squads carry momentum into the later rounds.
