Edouard Geffray has announced he will meet with lycée associations on Friday, according to Le Monde.fr, as blockades at French high schools continue and several dozen institutions move to distance learning.
The announcement came Thursday, the same day that several school principals were attacked and injured, ladepeche.fr reported. One headteacher suffered a head injury, and firecrackers were aimed at another, according to the outlet.
Nice-Matin reported that multiple lycées will stay shut on Friday to prevent further incidents, with instruction moving online. Le Monde.fr also noted that dozens of establishments have switched to remote teaching.
The unrest has not been uniform across the country. L'Est Républicain reported that mobilization resumed in Nancy while calm returned elsewhere.
Ryad Rani, described by Marianne as a leading voice of the lycée movement, said he is "fundamentally, obviously, of the left." Marianne reported that Rani has already received death threats.
The meeting between Geffray and student associations is set for Friday. Whether it produces any de-escalation, and whether the shift to remote instruction spreads to more schools, will be the focus in the coming days.
