Protests by school students in France are continuing, and more than 100 people have now been injured, according to NOS. The broadcaster reported the figure on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Dutch outlet NU reports that the demonstrations have escalated, including an account of hydrochloric acid being thrown at police. NOS also reported the injury total exceeding 100.
De Telegraaf reports that more than four hundred students have been arrested at the school protests, and that those detained are mainly minors. Jeugdjournaal, reporting earlier on the same demonstrations, put the number of injured at more than twenty at that stage.
The protests center on demands for better education. According to de Volkskrant, students taking part say the conditions they face in the classroom amount to a form of violence, describing receiving lessons there in those terms.
The reports come from several Dutch news organizations covering the same wave of demonstrations across France. The accounts differ in scale, with injury figures rising as coverage continued, and the arrest total reported separately by De Telegraaf.
It is not clear from the material available how many protests are ongoing or in which cities they are taking place.
What to watch next: whether the injury and arrest figures continue to rise, and whether French authorities respond to the students' demands over education conditions.
