French high school students staged a third round of nationwide mobilization on Tuesday, with Le Monde.fr reporting between 266,000 and 450,000 demonstrators taking part and 488 people arrested. Classes were suspended at numerous schools as students blockaded their campuses, according to the same outlet.

The wide gap in the crowd figures reflects differing counts from organizers and authorities, a pattern common at French demonstrations. Le Monde.fr also reported the suspension of courses at affected lycées.

The day drew participation beyond students alone. According to franceinfo, pupils, parents and teachers came together in locations including Saint-Denis and Paris, with participants describing a wish for a decent future. The outlet quoted the sentiment "On aimerait juste un bel avenir" — roughly, "we would just like a bright future."

The tone of the movement has been pointed. 20 Minutes documented slogans used by lycéens, including one crude phrase aimed at the government and a second demanding that their future, not something else, be the focus.

The education ministry published material on giving students a space for dialogue to voice their difficulties and expectations, framing it as "un temps lycéens."

Attention now turns to whether the movement continues. Le Parisien reported that following Tuesday's actions, a possible "acte IV" was being discussed for Thursday. Whether that fourth round materializes — and whether the participation and arrest figures hold at similar levels — is the immediate question.
